The photo of the French armoire type wardrobe above? You’ll pay a pretty penny for that one but generally, ‘Brown’ furniture has had its day – currently! Everyone over the age of 70, well they probably still love it, own it and use it. But anyone younger – on the tip it goes!

The wardrobe photo below is a typical example and you know what? Just as much, if not more skill, went into making that! Look at all those inner compartments! The organisational skills you can employ, dividing your smalls from your day wear! Your evening dresses from your leggings. And it doesn’t have to stay brown – up-cycling is big news. So you can decoupage (glue pretty tissue paper on it and put a layer of lacquer to protect it), you can distress it (paint a base coat, rub a wax candle over parts, paint a complimentary coat, then rub off the waxed areas so the first shade shows through). You can add wooden detailing, such as mouldings, then spray the whole thing so it looks like it’s all original! Have I piqued your interest yet?

Brown furniture is predominantly, made of real wood and built to last. So why are we ignoring it and turning our noses up? It will have its day again but the value will rise because so much is now in landfill – and that’s a crying shame! So, if you get offered a mid century modern coffee table, that’s not on the ‘wanted at an astronomical amount’ list. Turn it into something functional and funky, and think how proud you’ll be! Just like a Peacock 🦚🦚🦚
