Just like clothes, antiques and all things preloved, come round again, fashion wise. What\u2019s hot to trot one year can be scorned the next. Mid-century modern has been \u2018de rigueur\u2019 for quite a number of years now. All that stuff from the 70\u2019s that was laughed out of the house a decade ago, is now fetching high figures – because a lot of it, especially the Swedish and Scandinavian styles, they are design classics. But will the bubble burst eventually? Who can tell? Fashion, is a law unto itself and with the advent of social media, and influencers, maybe there will be a resurgence in 40\u2019s post war chic, we will have to wait and see.. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vintage, was not in our vocabulary, the way it\u2019s used now, up to a few years ago. A charity shop was just that – somewhere to offload your tat and feel smug – not now! Oh no, now even charity shops have a vintage section, where they double the price on anything over ten years old, whether it is really a vintage item that\u2019s fashionable, or not. Afternoon tea themed weddings, with mismatched furniture, crockery and even clothes, all highly desirable right now. Out with the smoothly run, perfectly catered and all matching sit down buffets of yesteryear – now it\u2019s finger sarnies and scones in exotic flavours. With a cup of tea from a vintage teapot, and mismatched teacup and saucer. So pretty and individual to your style and taste- and in these austere times, so much cheaper. Church halls have never been so busy. I for one, hope we never return to a fully planned wedding, by third parties – not to put wedding planners out of business, but I love seeing the excitement, pride and pleasure of a bridal couple who\u2019ve pulled together a budget wedding, that stays in the memories of all who attend, for years to come, over another blend ivory affair.
