{"id":255,"date":"2023-06-12T13:46:49","date_gmt":"2023-06-12T13:46:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepeacockemporium.com\/?p=255"},"modified":"2023-06-27T12:16:28","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T12:16:28","slug":"how-did-i-end-up-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepeacockemporium.com\/?p=255","title":{"rendered":"How did I end up here?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three years ago, I had no idea I\u2019d end up opening my own antiques and vintage business, and in truth it\u2019s all happened rather suddenly and yet it feels right! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three years ago, as lockdown was starting, the cancer that my mum had been fighting for two years took hold negatively and dementia became evident although she was in complete denial. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My husband and I helped care for her and my stepdad and life became very hard as her symptoms worsened. I felt I was on this treadmill I wanted to get off but couldn\u2019t, and I had always adored peacocks so my wonderful hubby started to buy me peacock-related items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We both developed an interest in second-hand stuff which kept us sane in the maelstrom of life as it was back then what with Covid and Mum\u2019s illness. We\u2019d find bits and bobs when money allowed \u2013 Chinese and oriental things became a passion and we scoured around for things to furnish our lounge within our very limited budget. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Mum\u2019s life expectancy diminished, I was lifted by my peacocks, their beauty and grandeur and they seemed to inspire me to carry on. I\u2019d stare at the clock on the wall, hubby had bought me for Christmas or a lovely tile picture hung in the hallway and I\u2019d feel peaceful again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sadly, I lost Mum late last year, and my own health took precedence and I had no notion of when I\u2019d feel I was ready to face life again after five years of just \u201cexisting\u201d &#8230; but life has a strange way of dragging you out of the doldrums, and it took somebody to challenge me to work again (I\u2019ll be forever grateful for that <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t51\/1\/16\/1f603.png\" alt=\"&#x1f603;\">) to fire me up enough to think &#8211; what have I got to lose? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So we collected stuff and broke ourselves financially even more, but it\u2019s been a labour of love and here I am today &#8230; about to embark on the biggest adventure of my life. Eventually, I hope that I can find a little shop somewhere and build my stock up, of lovingly sourced vintage and antique items, that will bring as much pleasure to their new owners as the stuff we\u2019ve bought so far, has brought us. It\u2019s addictive you know <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t51\/1\/16\/1f603.png\" alt=\"&#x1f603;\"> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Right now, I\u2019m concentrating on my online website and eBay store &#8230; the link is on here to that.
